Hi, I’m Sophie! Welcome to my little corner of the internet where I share bits about my life and the things I enjoy.
LIFE SO FAR
I’ve always had a passion for both science and technology, which led me to pursue bilingual secondary education with a strong focus on scientific and technical subjects. This foundation set the stage for my next step: studying ATLAS at the University of Twente. ATLAS is a University College Bachelor’s program that offers a broad base in Natural Sciences like math and physics, Engineering, and Social Sciences, along with applied research techniques. After building this broad foundation, I was able to choose courses from across the university to refine my focus.
For me, that focus became computer science and artificial intelligence, with a growing interest in the philosophy of technology and ethics. My Bachelor Thesis explored data efficiency in image recognition AI, specifically in the context of sorting onions based on quality—an interesting real-world application of AI.
After completing my BSc, I decided to gain some professional experience early on by doing a traineeship in software development. This experience was all about learning the fundamentals and gradually building towards a career. It ultimately led me to my current role as a full-stack software engineer, where I’m responsible for creating custom applications to support and streamline various company processes.
INTERESTS
I’ve been sailing since I was 7, starting with dinghies, and it’s now turned into a true passion. Lately, my focus has shifted to yachts, and I’m excited to continue exploring this side of sailing. My ultimate dream is to one day have my own boat and sail around the world. Until then, I’m making the most of every chance I get to be out on the water, whether it’s on a small dinghy or a larger yacht. Sailing has taught me so much—about patience, teamwork, and how to stay calm when things don’t go as planned.
When I’m not on the water, you’ll usually find me diving into video games. Some of my favorites are Borderlands 2, GTA5, Minecraft, and Project Zomboid. Each game offers something different, and I love getting lost in their worlds.
I also have a passion for analogue photography, which I mostly do while traveling. I love capturing the beauty of architecture and nature through my camera lens, and there’s something special about the process of using film that makes it all the more rewarding.
